Week 12. Deliverable 5: Project Status Report - Arduino Control System

Deliverable 5 will count 4% towards your final grade. At this point in the course the Arduino based control system needs to be fully developed. The control system is fully breadboarded and the Arduino code (sketch) mostly works. All students will submit a short (3 min max) video showcasing their control system. The videos must be uploaded before the deadline to the corresponding Canvas Assignment. All videos must use the title template posted below at the beginning, and the author of the video must introduce him/herself at the beginning.

The 3 min video needs to show the following:
  • A brief (30s) intro to your project. Show your current version of the 3D simulation and show/explain briefly what the object does.
  • A brief (30s) review of the latest version of your control circuit. Use your (updated latest version of the) block diagram from Deliverable 2. Explain which component does what.
  • A detailed discussion and demonstration of the breadboarded circuit (2 min). Perform all functions of your control system as they would occur during the operation of your object. Discuss how each element relates to the parts in the 3D simulation. Example: ".....the motion of this servo (servo moves in the breadboard video) releases the Skittles gun spring loaded bolt. The display shows (at this point, the display actually shows whatever needs to be shown at this point) the remaining number of Skittles...etc..."

Make an effort that your videos look professional. Make sure that:
  • the videos are well edited
  • the camera is steady (a tripod makes a great addition to your 'maker arsenal'...)
  • that there are no "messing around on the screen moments to find the right window" moments breaking the flow
  • that the sound quality is good and even throughout the entire video
  • you turn off fans, A/C and other background noise sources while you are recording.
  • the video is shot in high-resolution
  • it is well-focused (it is often best to switch the cell phone camera to focus lock to avoid constant refocusing during the shot)
  • you use a uniform background
  • the scene is well-lit, and that there is a good contrast between the object and the background.

Grading:
  • If the video has all the content requested above you get 70 points.
  • To get 100: Make a nice video! "A" stands for 'awesome'! Watch your video before uploading it to Canvas and remedy deficiencies.

Late submissions:
  • Up to one hour: 10 pts penalty.
  • Later than one hour: 20 pts penalty.
  • Submissions later than 24 hrs will not be accepted without valid excuse (doctor's note, accident report etc...).
